Cracking Chicago’s code

Look up zoning changes in your neighborhood

The Tribune has untangled the complex political process that underlies the transformation of Chicago's neighborhoods, bringing bigger and taller buildings to many communities. Search our online database for zoning changes on your street.

The database was created from the records of every meeting of the City Council's Zoning Committee from 2003 through 2007, encompassing the most recent full term of the Chicago City Council.

Select a ward or enter just a street name ("Halsted," "Michigan," etc.) to see a list of zoning changes for that ward or that street. Click on the street address to see a map of that address. Click on the old and the new zoning code to see a description of what could be built under that zoning designation.
